How can we determine whether a digital image is authentic from the moment it is captured?
Join us for an upcoming GLITSS Working Group 4 webinar exploring at-capture authentication and the use of Sensor Pattern Noise (SPN) to strengthen digital forensic workflows. Unlike metadata, which can be manipulated or removed, SPN derives from microscopic variations in the pixels of a camera sensor, creating a distinctive physical fingerprint associated with an individual device. This opens new possibilities for identifying the true source of digital images and detecting manipulated or synthetic content.
The presentation will explore applications including detecting biometric passport photo-morphing attacks before documents are issued, identifying anonymous darknet vendors through shared hardware fingerprints, verifying whistleblower photography captured in hostile conflict environments, and detecting recycled or synthetic images in fraudulent insurance claims
